Since The Gufs' inception in 1988, the Milwaukee-based quartet grew
steadily from releasing a series of independent records and performing
small club shows to drawing large audiences in the Midwest and across
the country. In 1996 they exploded onto the national scene with their
eponymous Atlantic debut, "The Gufs." Two singles charted on the
airwaves, "Crash (Into Me)" and "Smile" combined with successful
national touring. Their second Lava/Atlantic release, "Holiday From
You," came out in 1999, featuring the Billboard Heat-Seeker "Last
Goodbye." In 2006 The Gufs delivered "A Different Sea," closely followed
by "All Access" in 2008, a live concert DVD celebrating their 20th
Anniversary. Since then the band has chosen to play very select
performances, while members also write and record independently with
other artists in the Midwest and on the national scene. The Gufs 25th
Anniversary arrives in 2013. Production is underway for a commemorative
collection of music tentatively including previously unreleased tracks,
alternate recordings, B-sides and a few new songs.
