So what did David Lurhssen (Arts and Entertainment editor of the Shepherd Express), one the biggest writer/journalist in the state of Wisconsin, have to say about my new record?
“Elvis Thao is a socially conscious rocker from Milwaukee with a voice capable of rage and vulnerability, an ear for melody and a gift for the occasionally memorable line of lyric.” And then he proceeds to say, key line: “His stand up and fight song “No! (Neutralize)” could be the best anthem to emerge from the new age of protest.”

I encourage each and everyone of you, who are fighting and standing for a cause, regardless of what that may be, to take this song, use, utilize and include it in any of your promotional messages or send outs. Again, this is not my song, it is OUR song. I don’t write just for me. I write for the people. Thank you.

re·cal·ci·trant (r -k l s -tr nt). adj. Marked by stubborn resistance to and defiance of authority or guidance. a : difficult to manage or operate b : not responsive to treatment. These are all definitions of the term that has become known as band, Recalcitrant. After having the opportunity to sit down and talk with the band, it is clear these definitions do not apply to the individual members. Recalcitrant, as a collective, fits into the dictionary definition perfectly. This band began it’s Rise to success in 2002 with a focus on hip hop/reggae influenced material. When asked what the vision for establishing the band was, founding vocalist and guitarist Joe England responded with “My mission was to start a band and perform whatever we wanted, whatever moved us.” Throughout a few transitions leading up to 2007 when the band, as we now know them, began performing as Joe describes it “a high energy mix of Reggae,Ska,Hip-Hop,Jam,Rock,and Blues..With a positive message In a Marleyesqe type fashion. Recalcitrant is a great soundtrack to the modern man’s struggle.” From warehouse funky reggae jam parties to regular shows in Milwaukee area venues to Turner Hall and the Wisconsin State Capitol steps for 2010′s Harvest Festival, these guys have been on the Rise pleasing crowds while gaining friends and family wherever the “Recalcibus” takes the crew. Joe England is also the captain of the vehicle that ensures adequate and safe accommodations for the crew, which as he pointedly stated “This bus has been our home away from home here in Wisconsin and Minnesota to lower Michigan and we take care good of it with regular maintenance.” Now with an established production company booked for festivals here in the midwest such as IfdaKamp 2012, Recalcitrant is making the right moves on the steady path of happiness and success, ensuring each year will be another level of progress. With access to a full recording studio, Recalcitrant is about to release their first official mastered demo CD after several years of honing these songs in front of fans in the live setting. “Borrowed Power” is an inspiring handfull of original songs that we have been listening to over and over. Our feeling is that this band is on the Rise. Link up with Recalcitrant and show some support of their newly launched CD!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
John Masino Band CD release December 27, 2011
The John Masino Band releases its latest CD titled “Really?” on Tuesday, December 27, 2011.
Madison, Wisconsin, Wednesday, December 21, 2011 — Guitar legend John Masino and band release their long awaited CD “Really?” on Tuesday, December 27th, 2011. “Really?” includes eleven songs that cover a surprisingly wide range of styles from Rock, Pop, Funk, Dance, Metal, and instrumental. John Masino’s production wizardry abounds on this latest release from one of the Heartland’s top guitarists. Drawing on his years of experience as a guitarist and songwriter, the CD features a vast array of guitar styles, keyboard textures, and production values he has assimilated during the course of his career.
The CD features primary songwriter John Masino on vocals, guitar, keyboards and bass guitar, as well as JMB band members Mark Breyer (bass guitar), and John Roberts (drums/co-songwriter), with a special guest appearance by synthophonist Patrick Noles. The JMB rhythm section provides a strong, solid, groove oriented foundation for John to aurally weave his way in and around the compositions. The songs are FM friendly, powerful, and memorable. This bold effort gives the listener a little bit of everything.
The John Masino Band “Really?” is available through ITunes, Amazon, Broadjam, Reverb Nation and direct through Rock Central Studio. The Band performs frequently throughout the Midwest. Catch them in 2012.
