Sleighriders Invest in the Future of Milwaukee!
Nov 28, 2005
For nearly 25 years, the Sleighriders have gathered during the holiday
season giving up their time, contributing their talents in celebration for various benefits. This year's benefactor will be the Safe Zone Community Music Program, a program WAMI also supports. It's a place where young music students can receive instruments and instruction from experienced teachers.

The Sleighriders were recently inducted into the WAMI Hall of Fame and know the importance of passing the torch to aspiring children who need healthy creative outlets.

This year's event will include an auction of signed musical instruments,
paraphernalia contributed by the Brewers, Bucks, and Packers and fun
surprises!

This year's line up includes many previous WAMI winners: Eddie
Butts, Warren Wiegratz, Steve Cohen, Ronnie Nyles, members of Cheap Trick, Bad Boy, Toys, Snopek, BoDeans, etc....

The performance is Dec. 12 at Shank Hall, 7 PM-1:30 AM.

Experience Art 2005
Feb 10, 2005

As Milwaukee’s famed festival season quickly approaches, Milwaukee High School of the Arts (MHSA) launches its first annual Experience Art RiverWalk benefit festival, the newest and most innovative community arts festival. Audiences will enjoy quality entertainment AND support community arts education along Milwaukee’s fabulous RiverWalk.

To celebrate their 20th anniversary MHSA, at the former West Division campus, is creating this exciting multi-faceted benefit festival for the weekend of May 21 and 22. This unique family event will showcase MHSA talent and provide arts organizations, professional artists, current students and alumni the opportunity to donate performances and facilities in order to generate funds to help sustain MHSA.

They expect 20,000 Milwaukeeans to participate in a unique variety of activities at venues along the vibrant Milwaukee River Walk from the Historic Third Ward through the downtown district continuing north to Pere Marquette Park (home of Riversplash) and the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts’ outdoor Peck Pavilion (home of former Rainbow Summer). Events will happen on land (at participating restaurants and galleries) and on the river in boats that travel throughout the day. Residents and visitors may participate in any multitude of art experiences -- actively, by creating works of art themselves; learning to dance; participating in a poetry slam; or passively, by simply viewing artists at work or enjoying performances by national and local artists.

This event happens on graduation weekend, when families of students at Marquette University, MIAD, UW-Milwaukee and other local universities will come to the city to see their children graduate (many of whom attended MHSA).

Experience Art gives them an opportunity to explore Milwaukee’s vibrant downtown, experience the impact of the arts on our community and come together in celebration of the importance of arts and education.

All Proceeds Benefit Milwaukee High School of the Arts.

Art helps our young people become engaged, disciplined and successful in life. Our graduation rate of 93% is 30% higher than that of the overall MPS district. Their students – from diverse racial, philosophical and socio-economic backgrounds -- have consistently scored among the top three schools in MPS for performance in AP and ACT tests, and 76% of their graduates pursue post-secondary education. As a college preparatory institution offering nine advance placement classes, unique in offering two hours of arts studies daily, they have achieved proven results.

Please consider donating your time, talent, or services to what promises to be a creative opening to Milwaukee’s vibrant festival season.
