Can artists and bands under the age of 18 be nominated and vote for awards?

Yes. WAMI has a category called “Risng Star” specifically for artists under 18.

I am an established working musician, singer/songwriter, performer in the Midwest. I am based just outside of Milwaukee. I’m wondering what benefits I will gain as a member of WAMI. I have my fair share of work and gigs, most self generated. So what can WAMI offer me? Does WAMI restrict (union style) a member working with any group or individual with whom they have had a disagreement in the past?
As a solo performer (99%) I’m interested in the camaraderie and group effort involved in the organization but surely there is more for an artist to gain for his yearly fee. Thanks for your time.

Although WAMI Awards Nominations Categories and details change slightly from year to year, the basic voting process has remained the same. Each years rules and categories are explained fully and posted on WAMI’s website prior to the date voting begins. Hello,

My name is Nicole Waters, I have been a Wami member in the past and suport Wami. I am a producer at the Exchange and Studio Red. I am also a song writer. I typically write with Greg Gerard and Ryan Rossebo, Ryan being one of my co-producers. I won A National Sing like Lady GaGa Contest and through that got to meet with a A&R Rep from Interscope Records. In which turned into them showing interest! They are showing interest in me and my songs, and Greg, Ryan and myself have been working hard and carefully writing and producing songs out of the exchange to send to Interscope. (wish us luck)

I have played in bands since I was 15 years old around Milwaukee, and nationally (Larry Lynn and Bootlegger, Rick Holmes and the Stratatones, The Orphans, Saddle Brook, Rachel Trapp, Erica Hoyt). Point being I would love for someone to check out my productions and original songs. I would love for the opportunity to be considered for a nomination next year. (Producer/song/songwriter/singer) I love the Milwaukee music scene and have been to many Awards shows. So to whom it may concern, I should stop hiding in the background and get more exposure. Please check out my music at http://www.reverbnation.com/nicolewaters

Thank you, Peace, Love, Rock and Roll! :)

      Hi Karla,

Only WAMI Members are allowed to vote for the WAMI Awards Nominations. There are multiple Categories and Members are given 2 choices in each category. Some minimal votes in certain Categories are required. Please see the Rules in the WAMI Awards Nominations FAQ section.

We also have occasional seminars which will often have discounted prices for WAMI Members. Please see the Events > Past WAMI Events section of our website for details.

      Jim,

WAMI Members are allowed to nominate/vote in a variety of categories each year including “Album of the Year”. To be eligible, the Album/CD must be a physical product with a UPC code released between 1/1/2011 and 12/31/2011. Only current WAMI members are eligible to nominate/vote in each category.

The more airplay/press/good reviews/buzz etc. that a release receives, the more WAMI-awareness it creates and the more likely it will be nominated. Winners are selected by number of nominations in any category and are announced at the WAMI Awards Show in April.

Feel free to post a link to your website, the online store where people can listen to/purchase your CD at http://wamimusic.com/news/recent-releases/, anything to generate awareness for your band and CD. Let WAMI Members and website visitors hear your music, and help spread the word.

With your permission, I will post your question in WAMI’s FAQ section of the website. This and similar questions do come up quite often.

Thanks for your question and Good Luck!

      Sincerely,

      Steve Tomczyk

      Hello Kevin,

Thanks for your question. A date and venue have not been set for this year’s WAMI Youth Showcase although it usually coincides with a major Wisconsin Festival’s date and stage availability. Please watch the WAMI Website, especially the News, Events, and Calendar section for updates.

Does your organization support all genres of music? As part of an Americana/Core music genre bluegrass is important, but yet somehow overlooked. And, what would be the benefit of joining your organization? Thank you for your response.

      Hello Dan,

WAMI has supported all types of music/events/venues and musicians over the years. Our Membership and Board of Directors are comprised mainly of working musicians and/or music industry professionals from around the state and from a wide variety of musical genres. Until recently, one of our Board members was a banjo player in a Bluegrass band, and I worked for his band as an audio engineer.

As far as benefits of Membership, I would suggest you visit the “About” page on the Main Menu and have a look at the Mission Statement and also explore the site further. From a musician’s viewpoint one of the main benefits of WAMI are the many opportunities to network with other Wisconsin music industry professionals and working musicians. Stop down to an upcoming meeting which are open to the public and see for yourself.

I hope this answers your question. If not feel free to follow-up online or in person.

Thanks for your question and your interest in WAMI!

      Sincerely,

      Steve Tomczyk

      Hello Cory,

You’re in luck. The WAMI Online Membership Registration System has been in development over the past few weeks. We have been converting from paper forms and traditional mail to the online system to speed the process of registration and consolidate our Membership database. The system has been password-protected while we Beta-test. I will be making last-minute adjustments and launching it later today. Want to give it a try? Let me know. We welcome your comments and hope to continually improve the system for our new and existing Members.

Please read the online instructions carefully. Please submit any website-specific questions/issues to: website@wamimusic.com. Any Membership-specific questions can be sent to membership@wamimusic.com.
