WAMI THROWS ITS FIRST "FAST PITCH" DURING FALL SEMINAR
Musicians Get Opportunity to Pitch their Band to Music Reps in a "Speed Dating" Format

Imagine a room full of music reps and you have just a few short minutes to tell them why they should book you at their next gig.   The Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) will give area musicians that chance at the WAMI Fall Seminar on Sunday, Oct. 11, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., at Liquor Sweets, 3000 S. 13th St. in Milwaukee.  Representatives from festivals like Bastille Days and Summerfest, as well as venues like the Milwaukee Ale House will be among the panel of guests looking for talent to book at their next event, during the session titled "WAMI Fast Pitch".

"This event will be like speed dating," says Lance Shellman, president of WAMI.  "You have to make a great impression with the reps in a matter of minutes, so I think it will be a great learning experience.

Shellman recommends that only one or two members from each band attend the "Fast Pitch" session during the seminar and to bring with them an ample supply of CDs, press kits and enthusiasm.

Concurrent with "Fast Pitch" the WAMI seminar is also offering a workshop with Tamara Anderson, a well-known vocal instructor and coach.  Anderson will lead a workshop using nationally recognized vocal coaching techniques.  Anderson works with numerous recording and touring artists, both on major and independent labels.  She teaches state-of-the art Grammy Award winning vocal techniques and is the teacher and vocalist called upon by the most recognized recording studios in Chicago.

WAMI will also reprise its popular "CD Roulette" where the first 17 CD entries from local musicians or bands are judged by a panel of local music industry professionals.  The bands from the top three CDs selected will earn a performance slot at major festivals next summer.

Both WAMI members and the music industry public are welcome to attend. For WAMI members, the Fast Pitch or Vocal Coaching is free of charge, for non-members the cost will be $20. Entry fee into the CD Roulette will be $10 for members and $15 for non-members. However, if you choose to become a WAMI member or renew your existing membership at the seminar, you may enter both the CD Roulette as well as attend the Fast Pitch or Vocal Coaching at no additional charge. As an added bonus for our 30th year, we are offering a reduced membership rate of $30/Individual and $100/Band membership. This is an event for all ages.

Both WAMI members and the music industry public are welcome to attend. This is an event for all ages.

WISONSIN AREA MUSIC INDUSTRY 2008 AWARDS SHOW SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 28
Jan 26, 2008
Milwaukee, WI- The 28th Annual Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Awards Show will be Monday, April 28, at Turner Hall, 1034 N. 4th St. in Milwaukee. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the Awards Show beginning at 7 p.m. A post-show party, also at Turner Hall, follows for those in attendance. WAMI nomination ballots are due to the association by January 30, and a complete list of nominees will be posted at www.wamimusic.com by February 25. Tickets will be available for $40, with the sale date and band line-up to be announced at a later time. The WAMI Awards Show will be held for the first time at historic Turner Hall, which recently underwent a significant restoration. The two-story 1882 Turner Ballroom was well known as one of German Milwaukee's key social destinations for more than 50 years. The ballroom was host to numerous art events, political forums, weekly concerts, and gymnastics competitions until a pair of fires in 1933 and 1941 forced the ballroom to close. The creation of the Turner Ballroom Preservation Trust in 2000 has allowed the space to hold its first performance in over 60 years, which took place in October of 2007. "We are honored to be able to hold our annual Awards Show at Turner Hall in its historic ballroom," said Lance Shellman, WAMI president. "The facility has always been dedicated to supporting and strengthening Milwaukee arts. It's going to be a great show and we are excited to be a part of Turner Hall's resurgence." In addition to presenting awards in 36 categories, including Group or Artist of the Year, CD/Recording of the Year, Male and Female Vocalist of the Year, and Song of the Year, the program will feature a variety of live music performances. 2008 People's Choice Awards winners from four quadrants of the state will also be announced.
